About the Beginnings

Woodelier was born in 2014—a true labor of love. There was nothing rational about its inception: no business plan, no spreadsheets. I simply followed my heart and let life take me where I was happiest. A journey shaped by memories, experiences, and impulses led me here.

My style—essentially the Woodelier style—is deeply influenced by childhood memories of my grandmother’s enchanting house and lush garden in Sárospatak, the impressions I absorbed during five years in Paris, and my innate, unquenchable, and passionate love for Italy.

About Recycling and Reusing

At Woodelier, we believe that objects carry stories, and giving them a second life is not only beautiful but also essential. Recycling and reusing are acts of respect—toward craftsmanship, history, and our planet. By embracing vintage pieces, we reduce waste, preserve resources, and celebrate the timeless charm of well-made design. Sustainability is not just a trend; it’s a way of living with elegance and consciousness.

About Judit

I am Judit Szendrei, founder and owner of Woodelier.

Woodelier is an extension of my soul, my heart, and my individuality—expressed through objects.

Born into a family of lawyers, I earned a law degree but never pursued a career in the field. From childhood, I have been drawn to beauty. Hunting for beautiful objects is not just a passion but a love affair for me. My only criterion? That my heart skips a beat when I see a piece. Age, condition, or value do not dictate my choices—I collect what stirs emotions.

I seek them out, rescue them, dust them off, have them restored, sometimes transform them, dress them in new attire, breathe new life into them, and weave them into the Woodelier aesthetic.

About the Objects

The Woodelier collection consists of handpicked furniture, lighting, and home décor, primarily from the 1920s to the 1990s. Each piece is chosen with care, sourced from Hungary, Italy, France, and England.

At Woodelier, imperfections are perfection. We cherish the authenticity of objects—the uneven grains of aged wood, the patina on old brass, the foxing on antique mirrors, the sun-faded wear of vintage cane. These marks are not flaws; they are stories.

Some pieces, however, call for renewal. That’s why our collection also includes expertly restored, lovingly reupholstered, and beautifully reimagined pieces crafted with the highest quality materials and expertise.

About the store

Since April 2024, Woodelier has been welcoming fellow lovers of charismatic objects in a new 340-square-meter space in Budapest’s 11th district. But Woodelier is more than just a vintage home décor shop—it is an experience.

A hidden oasis in the urban rush, where time slows down, the city noise fades, music plays, disco balls sparkle, glass gleams in the light, and the sight of extraordinary treasures invites you on a journey through time. And as you explore, a glass of chilled champagne or a steaming cup of coffee is always within reach.
